Hola!
I've been thinking about the video project and I have decided to do a 5 minute cooking show reinforcing the formal commands for a begining spanish level class. The person (a student) in the video will explain a recipe of a Hispanic/Spanish dish (this will be the cultural) aspect. They will also explain the vocabulary of the food. (What foods they will be using and ingredients). It will kind of be a Rachel Ray 30 minute meal but this will be "Cocinando en 5 minutos". This will be a good way of presenting it to future classes.
I found this video as an example and they have both native and non-native speakers of spanish....
its a bad example of what I would like to do.

Teaching imperatives sounds like a good way to use the video camera. You could even teach vocabulary by simply zooming in on the various ingredients and whatnot. Seems like a very doable activity. Good luck!
Hi Lucia!
I think your video idea is really good, and I specifically like the aspect of combining the cultural aspect of food with the grammar aspect of the imperative. I'm sure you've noticed in your teaching that the students need as much exposure to command forms as possible, especially the formal commands, since they don't know the subjunctive at that point. I think you should go ahead with your video idea...and I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Hello Lucía,
I find your tentative idas for your miniproject quite suitable! That students feel real performers in a real world will be of their interest. May I ask you a question? Which recipe will you put into practice?
As Moniqua, I cannot wait to see how this went. As a sample, I found this for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdPLBxTUDEo -do not jugde in terms of linguistic accuracy, but in completion. If you do so when watching this video, students will feel genuine doers with a goal achieved! Good luck!
The activation of visual and auditory perception will be very effective for learning. Plus, an introduction of new material by meanf of a "tasty" topic about food is one more reason to be remembered by students:)
